International Academy of Image Arts and Sciences

The International Academy of Image Arts was founded by Gabriele Lucci.
The establishment of the school is based on the experience gained by
the L'Aquila Film Institute 'La Lanterna Magica" over the last twenty
years. The Film Institute has always been very attuned to new
developments in the language of film and audiovisuals. In 1992 the Film
Institute signed an agreement with the University of L'Aquila where the
two organisations made a commitment to allow the school to be
integrated into the university system. In 1993 the Academy began
offering international seminars and in 1995 it began operating courses
of study. The Abruzzo Regional Government's recognition of the Academy
as a school of excellence for highly specialised training in the
audiovisual industry has contributed to its achievements.
Both the provincial government and city council of L'Aqulia support this project and are represented on the Academy's board of administration.
The Academy has expanded its activities beyond education and training
to include research and development. It has published books on cinema
and its leading figures, it runs Cinema Massimo (a fully restored
art-deco cinema which screens quality films) and it produces highly
specialised audiovisuals to further knowledge and understanding of the
potential of the language of audiovisual images.
These various activities and the collaboration between the Abruzzo Film
Commission and the L'Aquila Film Institute place the Academy in a
uniquely privileged position to observe the world of cinema and to
conduct research into the art and science of producing audiovisual
images.
